Kautilya Arthashastra

Mauryan Empire laid the real foundation of Indian administrative system.The mauryan empire was  founded by Chandragupta Maurya and he was ably assisted by his advisor,diplomat and politician Kautilya.The administrative system followed by mauryan empire has been well laid down in the treatise Arthashastra written by kautilya.In fact Arthashastra became the main literary source for mauryan administration.KM Panikkar observed that the administrative system of mauryan empire was carried forward by the medieval muslim rulers and further by british administration.
